How to Get Decorative Elements in Your Stucco Facade

Table of Contents

Stucco is a great option for homeowners looking for a siding that will add protective elements to their home’s exterior but that is also flexible in terms of the aesthetic it will provide. The following are a few ways that you can get decorative elements in your stucco façade:

Colors

In addition to choosing a colored stucco finish, which usually consists of a white cement and a wide range of colored pigments, you can also scrub a Portland cement-based paint onto the stucco surface.

Fog coat

You can improve the look of your stucco by adding a fog coat, which is a light application of a cement based slurry, which will help to even out the appearance of the stucco surface.

Built-out shapes

You can enhance your stucco exterior with the use of built-out shapes, such as decorative tiles, cornices or quoins. These shapes are often referred to as plant-ons due to the way they’re attached to the surface of stucco. Basically, an expanded polystyrene foam section is attached to the basecoat using an EIFS basecoat material.
