A Quick Fix to Transform Your Home’s Exterior Appearance

Table of Contents

The exterior of your home is something that you should maintain on a regular basis for numerous reasons. First of all, the exterior is your home’s first layer of protection against the elements. Secondly, an exterior that is in a state of disrepair is going to hurt your property’s curb appeal. If you’re looking for exterior maintenance tips for your Kansas City home, then one thing that you can do to give your exterior a quick facelift is to repair any damaged fascia boards.

The fascia boards are made out of wood or sheet metal and run horizontally underneath the edge of your roof. This makes them more susceptible to water damage. Water damage can lead to rot, which in turn can result in your fascia boards becoming loose as well as unsightly.

Fascia boards are installed in segments. The seams should be lined up near the rafters, which should help protect them against water damage. There are a number of issues that your fascia boards can experience which can be easily repaired. If you notice that paint is peeling from your fascia boards but that the wood remains in good shape, then simply sand the boards and repaint them. If you do notice a problem with the wood as well, you’ll want to cut out the sections affected by rot and replace them.

When replacing fascia boards, be sure to avoid using 16 penny common nails. These will cause the fascia boards to crack and splinter. Instead, when putting  in new fascia boards, use 8 or 10 penny galvanized finishing nails. Apply wood filler to any cracks at the corners and seams and then sand the boards down.
